ABOUT US

Twechar Community Action is a company limited by guarantee with charitable status which was formed in 2001 as a response to the closure of the recreation centre in Twechar owned and operated by East Dunbartonshire Council. Twechar Community Action has been managing and operating the centre since April 2001. The company therefore has its origins in the action of local people to retain one of the few facilities and amenities in the village.

Our achievements have included:

• Forming a company limited by guarantee with charitable status to assume responsibility for the management and operation of the centre.
• Securing agreement to lease the centre facilities from the local authority.
• Recruiting and engaging volunteers from the community to assist in the operation of the centre.
• Provision of a dedicated pre-fives facility and café for the area.
• Securing new tenants and letting accommodation at the centre.
• Broadening the activities of the centre to ensure a focus on community regeneration, rather than solely recreation.
• Developed the centre into a Healthy Living & Enterprise Centre for the village.
